One month in… October 1, 2007

You may be wondering what my typical day or week looks like.
Most weeks, I have a staff meeting with either the local McMaster staff team or with the staff team in my region (McMaster, Guelph, and Waterloo). We use these meetings to touch base on some of the bigger projects that we work on together (ie. Fall retreat-Summit, October campus outreach, and the Winter Conference)
On Tuesday and Thursdays, I am on campus all day, meeting with students. Lately, I have been taking out students to go talk with other students, bringing up spiritual things and trusting God for opportunities to share the gospel. My Wednesday is similar, but at a different campus, Waterloo! I will go out to Waterloo two out of every three Wednesdays. It is exciting to be able to meet with guys in Waterloo, as I desire to help develop and raise up spiritual multipliers (I’ll write about a spiritual multiplier later).
On Fridays, I use to take care of administration stuff and in the evening we have the weekly meeting. A couple Fridays back, I was invited to speak on evangelism. I was very blessed and privileged to speak on that. Four years ago, a staff member, Sean Cullen spoke on II Corinthians 5:14-21. Having been deeply impacted by his talk, I sought to also provide some insight and encouragement with that passage as it relates to evangelism, being an ambassador of Christ (I will post my talk later).
I wrote in an e-mail to people about how it has been challenging to transition from being a student in the movement at McMaster to being a full-time staff worker at McMaster. Obviously, without having academic responsibilities, I have been entrusted with many more responsibilities as they pertain to the ministry. A couple weeks back, I was feeling overwhelmed, as I realized that I had so many different projects and responsibilities! I had responsibilities that were for Winter Conference, which is about 3 months away! It first appeared “crazy” to be doing stuff for that already, but as I can attest now, there is a lot of planning and work that goes into the fall retreat, Summit, and Winter Conference.
I am asking that God help me to show discernment as to how I allot my time for the various responsibilities that I have. I greatly enjoy being on campus doing evangelism, but I need to recognize that some of my other work helps me to ensure that others are learning and are getting opportunites for evangelism and discipleship.
Nevertheless, it has been greatly rewarding. One of the most rewarding things and encouraging things has been meeting with Patrick, who recently accepted Christ. He came from a fairly religious background, but had never heard or been explained that he could know God personally, and that through our wonderful Lord. It has been exciting to see him grow, as he has begun to read John and is asking me lots of questions. It has been refreshing to meet with a young believer, as it reminds me not be get to entangled in other things, but to remember and enjoy the basics of the foundational truths of knowing God personally! God is indeed ministering to me, even as I am ministering to Patrick. As I seek to teach Patrick, God is using what I am teaching to also convict me!
I am so thankful, really beyond words, to be doing what I am doing!
